Puppy Class

Perfect for puppies 8 weeks through 5-6 months of age, our classes use reward-based training methods to set you and your puppy up for success!

During each session, we’ll teach obedience commands, and facilitate problem-solving, puppy play, and Q&A.

Our training methods promote a strong puppy-owner bond, and form the foundation of a “Please, May I?” puppy, instead of a “Gimme! Gimme!” one.

Graduates of Puppy Class are encouraged to attend Puppy II or Beginner I for more advanced skills and problem-solving.

Puppy 2 Class

Class instructors will promote students into this class once they’ve mastered the curriculum of Puppy I. Promotion is based on accomplished skills, so although new students begin in Puppy I, it’s possible to be moved to Puppy II as quickly as the following week.

In this class, you’ll learn how to advance the basic commands your puppy knows. Our goal is for your puppy to be able to perform commands happily and reliably, no matter what distractions they may encounter. In addition, students will also learn new, more advanced skills, begin reinforcing more randomly with food and toys, as we’ll continue to problem solve behaviors that you’re having at home.

Beginner Class

Our Beginner level is the perfect class for dogs six months of age and older!

You’ll learn how our reward-based training method is the best and fastest way to teach basic commands, as well as create a strong foundation for impulse control.

The curriculum includes: Name Recognition, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, Loose Leash Heeling, Come When Called, Place/Bed Training, Manners and Leave It.

We also have a Q&A session to help you solve any and all behavior issues you’re dealing (or struggling!) with.

Best of all, we’ll teach you how to make sure your dog’s obedience is reliable even around the most challenging distractions!

Graduates of our Beginner I Class are encouraged to attend Beginner II for the advancement of their skills and problem-solving.

Intermediate & Advanced Class

These classes take your dog’s training to the next level!

Whether you’re looking for the reliability that duration, distance, and distraction training create, or if you want off-leash control, or if you’d love to try canine sports like agility or nose work, we have a class for you!

Canine Gym Class

Our Canine Gym class is more than a workout routine or an obedience class. It’s Fun. Dog. Fitness. The combination of physical and mental exercise is absolutely critical to a well-balanced and TIRED dog!

We’ve known dogs who have been taken out for a long run and come home bored and destructive. We also know dogs that get obedience training daily, but they don’t get the exercise they need. The combination of both—brain and body exercise—is what will help you have a well-balanced relationship with your dog and truly tire them out!

Our classes include curriculum created for various types of dogs: Puppy Fitness, Beginners Fitness, Advanced Fitness, Overweight Dogs, and Senior Fitness!

There’s a class for EVERY kind of dog in our programs! Our goal is to teach owners how to help their dogs live LONGER and HEALTHIER lives through canine fitness!

Please email ksdt.caninegym@gmail.com to reserve your spot!

Agility Class

This class teaches dogs how to safely learn each piece of equipment, then we will gradually will teach dogs (who are already familiar/comfortable with the equipment), how to do short sequences in preparation for full coursework.

Eventually, dogs and their owners will be able to practice their skills to run full courses! [Please note that our ring – and therefore our courses – are not to competition regulation size standards!]

Cautious Canines Class

Whether you have a dog who’s a little shy or cautious, this is the Beginner Class for you!

Keeping the same curriculum as our usual classes (sit, stay, come, down, place, let’s go, hand targets, behavior problem solving, and lots more), but tailoring it to dogs who may be a bit intimidated by the population of a regular beginner class, your dog will learn obedience commands and increase his confidence in a positive, calming, and supportive environment.

Reactive Rehab Class

This class is for dogs that get overly excited, reactive, or aggressive when they see other dogs. Some dogs are only triggered by specific dogs or situations, but all dogs (like people) have to learn to be calm and tolerant in spite of their environment.

In this class, you’ll learn how to safely handle your dog around other dogs and how to teach them skills to manage their behavior (sit, down, come, look, and many more). The process of learning these skills builds their social confidence, strengthens their relationship with you, and decreases their reactivity level.

The classroom environment will be set up using dividers to avoid dogs getting into each other’s personal space. As your dog progresses, you’ll be gradually working closer to the other dogs in class in order to build social tolerance. Plenty of time in each class will be devoted to Q&A and problem solving solutions.

Owners of “reactives” tend to believe that their dog can’t be fixed, but our decades of experience has taught us otherwise. Through safe, appropriate socialization and training, success can be achieved. Left untreated, reactivity can worsen and eventually may lead to a bite. We’ll help you with solutions and techniques specifically for your unique dog.

Coming Soon: Nose Work

Nosework is a canine sport created to mimic professional scent detection tasks.

Dogs are trained to find a hidden ‘target odor’, and are rewarded with food or a toy after a successful find.

Nosework is a popular sport, because unlike other dog activities, it accommodates canines with disabilities and/or behavior problems.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Yes! Open enrollment is a way of running class so that no one is “locked out” while they wait for a class start date to begin. We understand that when you want your dog trained, you want him trained NOW.

With our unique system, you can start at any time!

A good example is in beginner class when we work on “sit”. One person might be luring their dog into a sit, another may be asking for a sit from the end of a 6′ leash, and another may be working on a moving sit. Everyone works at their own pace. Once you’ve maxed out the curriculum for a level, you’ll move up to the next one.

Plus – you don’t have to endure the chaos that can happen in a class when everyone is new. It may be your dog’s first class, but there will be others who’ve been there for 1, 2, or 5 weeks, so they’re cool, calm, and collected. New dogs will pick up on the calm vibe and be more relaxed and ready to learn!

Nope. We don’t think you should be penalized for life getting in the way. You buy 6 classes and when you attend 6 classes, you renew. Not a second sooner.

We know your life is busy and you want your dog to behave. Why make it harder by limiting your ability to come to class? If you can’t make it to your usual class, find one of the same level, and come to that one. Meet new people, new dogs, and keep your training on track.
